Toastmasters

October is Flathead Valley Toastmasters Month and Columbia Falls Speaks Toastmaster’s Club offers leadership and communication training to our community members. Meetings are held on Tuesdays at noon in the lower conference room of Freedom Bank with meetings Oct. 2, 16 and an open house Oct. 30. Join us at any of our monthly meetings or our open house meeting. Gain confidence and polish your presentation and leadership skills. Endowment help

The Columbia Falls Athletic Endowment Fund is looking for a new board member or “power couple” to serve on the board. The endowment recently became its own 501 (c) 3 organization and promotes an opportunity for all students to participate in high school sports. Peck talk

Brian Peck, an independent wildlife consultant with for National Audubon Society, Great Bear Foundation, Sierra Club, and Natural Resources Defense Council and others that have worked to bring about the recovery of grizzly bear populations in the northern U.S. Rockies, will give an update on current status of grizzly bear recovery based sound ecological principles at the Montana House in Apgar at 4 p.m. Oct. 6. Talk is free and open to the public, though reservations are suggested by calling 888-5393.

Canyon dinner

The free Canyon Community Dinner at the former Canyon Elementary School is Thursday the Sept. 27 and the menu is a hearty beef stew served with corn bread, green salad and apples with a special dip. Dinner is between 5:30 and 6:30 p.m. Any questions feel free to call Flo 250-3406 or Luann 261-1083.

Crop walk

The 10th annual North Valley Community Crop Walk to stamp out hunger is planned for Sunday, Oct. 14 at Marantette Park in Columbia Falls. Registration begins at 1 p.m. and step off is at 1:30. There will be a 1K and a 5K route. The donations from this walk benefit the Canyon Community Dinners as well as other hunger programs in our valley and worldwide. The event is sponsored by Our Savior’s Lutheran, United Methodist and All Saints Episcopal churches which are partnering with Church World Services. Donations are tax deductible.

Metals class

Come to an informative and fun metals class at Columbia Falls High School. Learn how to safely oxyacetylene braze, weld and cut steel. The electric arc welding methods introduced are: electric stick, MIG welding (wire feed). Classes will meet on Wednesdays from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. in the CFHS metal shop and will run Oct. 3 - Dec. 12 for 10 sessions. Instructor is Rodney Cogliati. Cost is $110.00 for district 6 and $120 for out of district. Sign ups and payments may be made at CF High School office before the first class. The Columbia Falls Chamber’s monthly business after hours is from 5 to 7 p.m. Sept. 25 at Meadow Lake Resort.

Bradshaw talk

School District 6 Superintendent Steve Bradshaw is the speaker at the next Columbia Falls Chamber of Commerce luncheon starting at 11:45 a.m. Oct. 9 at the North Valley Community Building on Nucleus Avenue. The new district teachers will also be introduced.

Ribbon cutting

Mann Mortgage will have a chamber ribbon cutting ceremony in Columbia Falls Oct. 17 from 5:30 to 7 p.m.

Community market

The Columbia Falls Community Market is at 5 p.m. Sept. 27 at the Coop. This week’s band is Moonshine Mountain. Bonsai Brewing provides the beer, Montgomery the liquor and the sponsor is Glacier Southeby’s Realty.
