Snow removal topic of city council meeting
Snow removal on U.S. 2 and Nucleus Avenue in Columbia Falls will be discussed at the Columbia Falls City Council meeting today.
Last year, with a big snowpack and multiple storms, the city had plenty of snow problems and businesses were required to plow the sidewalks in front of their shops.
The results were mixed, to say the least.
Justun Juelfs, maintenance chief for the Montana Department of Transportation, will make a presentation to the council and public regarding snow removal. The presentation will include last year’s efforts and how snow will be removed moving forward.
Time has been allotted for questions from the council and the public.
The council also has two public hearings scheduled.
The first hearing is a city-initiated request for a zoning amendment to manufacturing/warehouse parking standards, requiring one parking space per 800 square feet of gross floor area.
“Manufacturing is in a state of change with the advancement in robotics and digital technology,” the city staff report notes. “The result is there are fewer workers needed in these manufacturing plants to create a unit of product and the result is less need for parking.”
Columbia Rising LLC is asking for approval of a 19-lot industrial park on the former Weyerhaeuser stud mill site, a 36.5-acre tract.
The meeting begins at 7 p.m. at Columbia Falls City Hall.
