Wildkats crush Ronan at home, sweep Stevensville

The Wildkat volleyball team dominated their competition last week, picking up sweeps against Ronan and Stevensville.

It was all Wildkats Thursday evening as they crushed the visiting Ronan Maidens in three sets, 25-10, 25-22 and 25-13.

The Kats offense was led by Stella Bistodeau with eight kills while Madysen Hoerner had six and Ryley Kehr and Hannah Schweikert each added five. Schweikert also led the team in assists with 21.

“Tonight I saw more consistency out of my hitters and our offense was more spread out,” head coach Jolandie Brooks said. “Hannah Schweikert, our setter, had five kills herself. We did a good job of mixing up our sets.”

Defensively, the Kats were led by 17 digs from libero Angellica Street while Hoerner added eight. Kehr led the team in blocks, recording two of the Kats’ five blocks in the victory.

“Our defense looked a little better. The girls are starting to hit the floor more,” Brooks said. “Our goal is to stay driven and competitive.”

The Kats jumped out to a quick 18-8 lead in the opening set against the Maidens on their way to taking the set 25-10.

The Kats built another large lead, 21-11, in the second set, but Ronan used an 11-3 run to cut the lead 24-22 before the Kats scored the final point to take the set 25-22.

It was all Kats in the third set as C-Falls built an early 14-3 advantage. Kiera Brown ended the conest will a kill as they Kats took the third set, 25-13.

The Kats faced a much tougher challenge in Stevensville Saturday, but they still came away with a sweep as C-Falls defeated the Yellowjackets 25-22, 26-24 and 25-21.

The Kats recorded 28 kills in the win, led by Hoerner’s eight. Kehr and Bistodeau each added six.

Schweikert recorded 22 of the team’s 26 assists in the win while also leading the team in aces with three. Savvy Ellis also had two aces in the win.

Defensively, the Kats were led by Street’s 15 digs while Ellis added seven. The Kats had 42 digs in the contest. Hoerner and Brown each had two blocks in the win as well.

The Kats will be at home against Polson Thursday, on the road at Browning Saturday and at home against Whitefish Tuesday.
