Soccer teams close out busy week
The Columbia Falls soccer teams had a busy week as they played at Frenchtown Tuesday before traveling to take on Belgrade Friday and Park High in Livingston Saturday.
The girls fell behind 1-0 in the early going at Frenchtown but scored nine straight to earn a 9-1 victory. Josie Windauer led the way with five goals while Maddie Robison added three assists.
The boys fell, 3-0.
In Belgrade Friday, the girls fell 7-0.
The girls bounced back with 5-1 win against Park in Livingston Saturday. Tied 1-1 at the half, the Kats scored four in the second half to pull away. Windauer and Robison each scored twice in the win while Cheyanne Johnston-Heinz added the other goal.
In boy’s action, the Wildcats put up a good fight on Friday, but fell to Belgrade 3-0. Wildcat keeper Story Stemborski had 23 saves in the loss.
The Cats lost another close one in Livingston Saturday as they fell to Park, 1-0.
“It was a really close game. We just didn’t score on our chances but our defense played well,” Byrd said. “I am seeing steady improvement with the boys squad. We don’t have a very experienced team this year, but we have a incredibly hard-working group of athletes who are committed. We are getting our defense dialed in. Now we just need to find someone who is ready to put the ball in the back of the net.”
Both teams hosted Whitefish Tuesday. C-Falls will play at Polson Saturday and at home against Stevensville Tuesday.
