George Martin English

George Martin English was born on April 22, 1946 (Earth Day) to Jim and Marie English. He went to be with the Lord on Oct. 9, 2018. He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Johanne, his brother Lynn, and his brother Allen, whom he never met. He was also preceded by his beloved dogs, Daisy and Oakie.

He is survived by his children, Trisha English, Adam English, Amber Keithley and son-in-law Alan Keithley; foster daughter Misty Roman and son-in-law Manny Roman. He leaves behind his sister Amelia and sister Annette and brother-in-law Bob Powell; many nieces and nephews who looked up to him; and many loving grandkids and foster kids.

George worked with kids at the Utah Boys Ranch before he returned to Montana. Many foster kids passed through our home in Martin City. He loved everyone of them. Kids and animals gravitated towards his loving and generous heart. He loved teaching young people how to fish, camp and go boating. Many children will remember sitting by the fire, roasting hot dogs as he played his guitar and sang “Puff the Magic Dragon.” He touched many lives, never judging anybody and loving unconditionally. A most generous man, he would give the shirt off his back to help anybody. He lived his life to the fullest, right to the end.

He loved Montana. He loved the trees, the mountains, the rivers and the lakes. He always said when he died to prop him up against a tree and let the bears eat him. He was serious. No hospitals. No rest homes. We did the next best thing. He died in a cabin on the “Flying Eagle Ranch” in the woods with his soul mate and friend next to him. It was a privilege and an honor to take care of him. His closest friends stuck by him right to the end. They were by his side watching football even when he wasn’t coherent.

A special thanks to Rene Byrd and all of the hospice nurses. You are angels!

Our hearts are heavy with sorrow for us, but so happy his suffering is over. He’s with God.

He was a very special man and he will be remembered as the kindest man ever!

At his request, we are having no funeral. In the summer, the family is planning a private memorial.
