Kats win 3 of 4 heading into showdown with Libby
The Wildkats volleyball team was looking strong heading into Tuesday’s matchup with conference-leading Libby after picking up wins over Whitefish, Ronan and Hamilton and playing a tough match against Southwest Conference-leading Corvallis last week.
The Kats made short work of Whitefish at home last Tuesday as they swept the Lady Bulldogs 25-17, 25-16, 25-7.
Ryley Kehr led the offense with 10 kills while Stella Bistodeau added nine and Madysen Hoerner had eight. Hoerner also served 10 aces and added 10 digs while Kehr led in blocks with two. Lauren Faulkner and Kiera Brown also added a block each and Angellica Street also had 10 digs.
“Our girls showed up to play tonight. They played a very clean game,” head coach Jolandie Brooks said.
The Kats picked up another lopsided win Thursday as they downed the Maidens in Ronan, 25-19, 25-16, 25-15.
Setter Hannah Schweikert recorded all 15 Columbia Falls assists in the victory while Kehr again led in kills with nine. Faulkner served six aces, Street had nine digs and Brown added two blocks.
The Kats were back home Saturday as they hosted a double header against Hamilton and Corvallis.
The Kats picked up another sweep against Hamilton, winning 25-6, 25-12, 25-15.
Hoerner led in kills with six while Kehr had five and Brown added four. Schweikert had 19 of the team’s 20 assists in the win while Street added 15 digs and five aces. Hoerner and Savvy Ellis also added seven digs each in the win.
The Kats’ winning streak came to end against Corvallis in the final matchup of the day Saturday as Columbia Falls fell in three sets, 25-15, 25-9, 25-17.
“Corvallis came out strong against us and our passing broke down,” Brooks said. “The game also revealed some weaknesses in our defense that we get to make adjustments to in practice.”
The Kats will be at Whitefish Thursday before traveling to Butte for the Blocktober Classic this weekend.
