Fundraiser for Fishel is Friday at Ruder
A spaghetti dinner fundraiser for Lindsey Fishel is this Friday at Ruder Elementary School. Fishel has been diagnosed with Guillain-Barre´ syndrome, which attacks the nervous system.
The exact cause of Guillain-Barre syndrome isn’t known, according to the Mayo Clinic. The disorder usually appears days or weeks after a respiratory or digestive tract infection.
While there is no known cure, there are effective treatments and most people recover from the malady. Fishel’s recovery is expected to be at minimum a few months with several weeks in the hospital. There is the possibility of needing to be placed in a rehabilitation facility after the hospitalization where she would reside and have therapies. Lindsey is a paraeducator at Glacier Gateway Elementary School. She and her husband, Coleton, both work full-time. They have three small children Raelynn, 6, Myles, 4 and Bennett, 1.
The dinner runs from 5:30 to 7 p.m. and is $5. The funds will go to offset the family’s medical expenses, which are expected to be substantial.
