Quick shot of snow expected for tomorrow morning

The Columbia Falls and the Glacier National Park area should see a quick shot of snow on Friday, as an arctic cold front is expected to quickly spill over the Continental Divide.

The National Weather Service is saying that places like Marias Pass could see about 6 inches of snow, but the valley floors will likely see less than an inch. The bigger concern, said meteorologist Jeff Kitsmiller, is icy roads during the morning commute, as the system could start out with rain and then change over to snow.

Winds in the Bad Rock Canyon will be brisk, with gusts up to 40 mph.

By Saturday we should see sunny, but cold skies and highs in the 20s and 30s. Lows Friday night will be quite cold — single digits in the Park and low teens elsewhere — the same holds true for Saturday night.

Thanksgiving week will probably start out with inversions, with a system coming through later in the week. Models first called for a system on Thanksgiving Day, but have since backed off from that, Kitsmiller noted.
