Up by as many as 16 Saturday, the Wildcats held off a late Lewistown rally to down the Fergus Golden Eagles 23-22 in the Class A state quarter-final at Satterthwaite Field.

With the win, the Cats will now host Hamilton Saturday, November 10 in the state semi-final, a rematch of last year’s championship game.

With the Cats clinging to a one-point lead with under two minutes to play, Drew Morgan knocked down a pass on a fourth-and-five for the Golden Eagles that sealed the victory for Columbia Falls.

“It was playoff football. Keep your heads up, we got the win,” head coach Jaxon Schweikert told his team after the win. “We showed good fight and we stayed in there when thing didn’t go right for us. We can play better and getting this kind of a challenge is a good thing. Them playing us that tough might have helped us, you never know.”

Elsewhere in the Class A playoffs Saturday, Billings Central defeated Dillon, 38-13, Laurel defeated Corvallis 49-6 and Hamilton defeated Miles City 53-20.
