Kats down Browning, win four at Butte tournament
The Wildkat softball team seems to have hit its stride, winning five games last week and pushing their winning streak to eight games.
“Our bats are really hitting well right now,” head coach Dave Kehr said. “We are getting hits up and down the lineup and that is helping us overcome any mistakes we make in the field right now.”
The Kats opened the week with a win in Browning Tuesday, downing the Lady Indians 15-0 in four innings.
The Kats picked up 20 hits in the lopsided win, led by a 4-4 performance by Madysen Hoerner. Kaylee Ashe had a double and two singles, Graceanne Sevesind had a triple and Kenndy Payne went 3-3 at the plate in the win.
The Kats picked up four wins at the Laverne Combo Tournament in Butte over the weekend, downing Livingston, Sidney, Dawson County and Laurel.
The Kats used a five-run second inning to get past Livingston Friday as Ashe went 3-3 with a double and two singles. Savvy Ellis picked up the win for the Kats in the pitching circle.
The Kats used a five-run fifth inning to open up a close game against Sidney to earn a 9-3 victory. Jayden Hamilton picked up two hits and a pair of RBIs in the win while Riley Kehr also brought in two runs.
The Kats held off a late ralley to pick up a 5-4 win over Dawson County in their third game as Ashe and Trista Cowan both went 2-3 at the plate with doubles and Riley Kehr was 3-3, also with a double.
The Kats jumped out to a 5-2 lead after one inning against Laurel as Hamilton launched a two-run home run. Laurel never recovered as Columbia Falls cruised to a 7-3 win. Ellis again picked up the win in the circle while Cowan and Isabell Johnson also saw action.
The Kats played at Frenchtown Tuesday, will be at Polson Thursday and will host Whitefish to end the regular season Saturday at 2 p.m.
