Four Kats receive post-season basketball honors

Four Wildkats players and their head coach picked up post-season honors recently as the Class A All-State and All-Conference selections were announced.

Seniors Dani Douglas and Hannah Gedlaman were All-State selections and were also named to the Northwest All-Conference first team.

Douglas led all of Class A in free throw shooting this season, making 83.9 percent of her attempts, while averaging 11.8 points per contest. Douglas was second in the state in steals at 4.1 per game and third in assists, where she also averaged 4.1 per contest.

Gedlaman also had an outstanding season for the Kats, finishing fifth in the state in scoring at 14.8 points per game and third in rebounding at 9.5 per contest.

Joining Douglas and Gedlaman on the All-Conference team were juniors Ryley Kehr and Trista Cowan.

Kehr was a second team selection after a season in which she averaged 12.9 points and 6.2 rebound per game. Kehr led the state in shooting percentage, making 60 percent of her shots during the regular season and was also seventh in assists at 3.2 per game and 10th in blocks at just under one per game.

Cowan was an honorable mention selection after a season in which she averaged 9.2 points per game and led the Kats in rebounding at 9.8 per game, which was second in all of Class A. Cowan was also third in the state in blocked shots, averaging 1.6 per game.

Wildkats head coach Cary Finberg shared Northwest A Coach of the Year honors with Browning’s Ray Augare after the Kats finished the regular season 16-2 before finishing third at the Class A State Tournament.

Joining Gedlaman and Douglas as All-State selection from Northwest A were Browning’s Ronnal Jordan and Ronan’s Micalann McCrea, who was also named the Conference Most Valuable Player.
