Fire talk
There is a talk on wildfire history Thursday, June 7 from noon to 1 p.m. at the West Glacier Community Building. From Native American pre-European influence to the present, fire was, is, and always will be a major disturbance and influence of the forest environment.
Rick Trembath of Flathead Forestry and Fire Consulting will provide a brown bag presentation that explores historic fires in Northwest Montana and looks at how these past fires shaped the forest landscapes of today. Trembath, a wildland firefighter for over 50 years, will review some of the lessons learned from Northwest Montana’s historic wildfires and how they may apply to the future of area wildfires.
Plant walk
Join Glacier National Park Ecologist Tara Carolin and other plant lovers of the Montana native Plant Society searching for blooms on Kim Pinter and Gil Jordan’s forested property. This Flathead Land Trust conservation easement is adjacent to the Coram Experimental Forest. Who knows, there just may be a rare plant lurking. If you choose, bring a sack dinner to eat while we chat about what we have seen.
Contact: Kim Pinter 406.387.5814, sydthewilddog@gmail.com. Free and open to the public, but please RSVP.
Meeting at 5:30 p.m. at the Columbia Heights Park and Ride, Junction of Highways 206 and 2. Or call Kim to meet in Coram at 5:45 p.m.
