Swimmers host home meet, take second in Plains

The Columbia Falls swim team was at home over the weekend as they hosted a meet at the Pinewood Park Aquatic Center.

Alanis Peterson and Camille Cronk led the way for C-Falls, each winning two races and earning second in another. Cronk was the winner in the 50 and 100 freestyle races in the girls’ 9-10 division and was second in the 50 backstroke while Peterson won the 100 individual medley and 50 breaststroke in the and was second in the butterfly in the same division.

Overall, Columbia Falls finished first in seven races, picked up 14 second-place finishes and finished third 21 times at the meet.

The team’s other three top finishes came in the relay events, where the 8-10 girls’ 100 freestyle team of Peterson, Cronk, Brooke Evans and Taryn Borgen won their race with a time of 1:10.99. The same team also won the 100 medley relay with a time of 1:23.53. The girls’ 8 and under team won the 100 medley relay with a time of 1:58.38.

The Columbia Falls swim team had another strong outing in Plains to start July as the team placed in the top three 46 times and finished second overall.

Over the two-day meet, the team picked up 14 first-place finishes, 22 second-place and was third 10 times.

Peterson led the way for the squad, finishing first in girls’ 100-yard individual medley (9-10) with a time of 1:37.53, first in the 50-yard butterfly at 43.10 seconds and first in the 50-yard breaststroke with a time of 49.29 seconds.

Talon Borgen also picked up a pair of wins in the boys’ 8 and under division as he won both the 100-yard individual medley and the 25-yard butterfly.

Other first-place finishers in Plains included Kensley Cheff, Norah Bagley, Brayden Hull, Taryn Borgen, Jeremiah Venegas and Tyler Hull.

The team also picked up wins in three of the relays as the 8 and under boys relay team of Liam Swank, Fjord Borgen, Brayden Hull and Talon Borgen won the 100-yard freestyle relay with a time of 1:52.81. The 9-10 girls’ 100-yard freestyle relay team of Peterson, Evans, Molly Bagley and Taryn Borgen won their race with a time of 1:15.39 and the girls’ 11-12 squad of Bagley, Sadie Cheff, Campbell Fox and Jolie Friar won the 200-yard medley relay with a time of 2:40.98.

The team will be in action this weekend at Fort Benton.
