Sherry Martin

November 26, 1948 the world was brightened with the birth of Sherry Lynn in Hamilton. Our hearts heavy with sorrow for us, but joy for the end to her suffering July 11, 2018 when God called her home. She was preceded in death by her sister, Candy Mitch, her Dad, Neil Boyd, and her Mom, Rose Boyd.

She is survived by her loving devoted husband Dan Martin; children, Carmela Martin, Lisa (Ed) Houghtaling, Dana (Jeff) Siegel, Fred (Stephanie) Martin; grandchildren, Marily, Zachary, Codi, Hayley, Samantha, Derek, Victoria, Brandon, Devin, Nate, Nathanial, Lucy; great-Grandchildren Dallas, Makayla, Delia, Marrissa and Hayes; her siblings, sister Rosie (Butch) Brester, brother, Danny Boyd, numerous nieces, nephews and surrogate grandchildren. Sherry was known has grandma by countless children, both in the family, friends and throughout the community. She had so much love to give it was the light of her life to hold a little one and give one of her warm hugs.

Sherry grew up in Hungry Horse and graduated from Columbia Falls High School. She was and adventurous girl that always like to “keep up with the boys” as I remember her saying. She liked to try new things and live a little on the edge. Sherry with her sisters would love to climb trees. Candy was the fastest and highest with Sherry close on her heels always trying to keep up and doing a great job. She was a compassionate person always caring about others and how they were being treated. She was nicknamed “Irish” by her Dad, with that red hair and feisty personality it fit, and she loved it. Stories she would share of her Dad always showed the love they shared as her eyes would light up at the memory.

After high school she went to California to nanny, yet one more adventure to try. Sherry came back to Montana in 1969. In the spring of 1970 she met and married the love of her life. Dan and Sherry had only been dating a few weeks when they got engaged and soon after married. She said, “when you know you know!” Over the years they have shared that love with family and friends alike across the globe.

Sherry proudly worked for the United States Postal Service for over 25 years. She began her career as a postal clerk only working Saturday and covering vacations at the Burbank Post Office. She was promoted to Postmaster in Burbank in 1988 where she held that position until she retired in 2002. She loved her customers and they loved her. The little kids knew to ask for a treat and weren’t disappointed as she always had suckers, cookies or candy for them.

She will be missed by many near and far. Her love knew know boundaries and could reach you near or far, you just felt it. So although you are no longer physically here with us, Mom, grandma, aunt, sister, wife, friend you ARE with us and we feel your love and hear your contagious laugh.

Services will be at Mueller’s Funeral Home, 1401 S Union Ave. Rosary Thursday July 19, 2018 at 6 p.m. Celebration of life is July 20 at 10:30 am.
