Columbia Falls swim team earns second at Cut Bank meet

The Columbia Falls swim team had another successful weekend June 30 and July 1 as the team finished second at the Cut Bank Invitational, missing first place by only two points.

The team picked up eight individual first-place finished on the weekend as well as 12 second-place and 10 third-place. Columbia Falls dominated the relays, winning four races, finishing second in the girls’ 200-yard medley relay and three third-place finishes. The team of Taryn Borgen, Elaine Martindale, Brooke Evans and Camille Cronk won both the relay and medley relays in the 9-10 division and the boys’ team of Tyler Venegas, Connor Cheff, Logan Niles and Jeremiah Venegas did the same in the 13-14 division.

Cronk led the way in the individual races, winning the girls’ 50-yard freestyle (9-10) with a time of 37.44 seconds and the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 1:28.28. She was also second in the 50-yard backstroke.

Talon Borgen earned the trophy for picking up the most points in the boys’ 8 and under division as he finished first in the 100-yard individual medley, second in the 25-yard butterfly, and fourth in the 25-yard freestyle.

Tristan Crane won the boys’ 50-yard breaststroke (11-12) with a time of 46.54 seconds and Kaylee King won the girls’ 200-yard freestyle (11-12) with a time of 2:52.26.

The team was in action in Plains over the Fourth of July weekend. Results should be available next week. The team will be at home this weekend as they host the Columbia Falls meet Saturday and Sunday.
