MatCats win in Polson, 15th in Missoula
The MatCats picked up a win in Polson Thursday as they outdueled the Pirates in a dual, 42-30.
Five of the Cats’ wins came via pin as Austin Nelson (120), Jason Dobson (145), Colton McPhee (182) and Jakob Freeman (205) all pinned their opponents.
Two of the Cats’ pins came in less than two minutes as Freeman pinned Jasper Drake in 1:06 while McPhee pinned Noah Humphrey in 1:56.
The closest match of the evening was between Columbia Falls wrester Ben Windauer and Polson’s Hunter Fritsch in the 170-pound division. Windauer narrowly picked the victory via a 7-6 decision.
Ayden Role defeated Polson’s Jarod Farrier, 3-0, in another close match at 138.
The MatCats were in action again Friday and Saturday as they wrestled at the Rocky Mountain Classic in Missoula, where Columbia Falls finished 15th.
Windauer had the top finish for the Cats, coming in third and getting all three of his wins via pins that took less than two minutes.
The Cats had two other wrestlers in the championship round as McPhee (182) fell to University’s Reed KIannapien via major decision, 9-1, in the fifth-place match and Freeman (205) dropped a fifth-place decision against Capital’s Seth Jensen, 9-7.
The MatCats will be back in action Friday and Saturday in Belgrade.
