Girls take third, boys fifth at home swim meet

The Columbia Falls swim team was in action in their only home meet of the season Saturday as they, along with Whitefish, hosted the Cat/Dog Invitational at The Wave in Whitefish. Both the boys and girls finished in the top five as the girls team finished third overall while the boys were fifth.
The teams combined to pick up 19 top five finishes, including nine in the top three and two individual top finishes.
Kailey Schrader, Emerald Templin and Hannah Callender were the top finishers for the girls as Templin earned third in the 200-yard individual medley and fourth in the 100-yard freestyle while Schrader was third in the 100-yard breaststroke and fourth in the 100-yard butterfly. Schrader’s time of 1:20.72 in the breaststroke set a new school record in the event. Callender finished third for the Cats in the 100-yard butterfly and fifth in the 50-yard freestyle.
Other top-five finishes for the girls included Jayna Moultray finishing fourth in the 200-yard freestyle and fifth in the 100-yard backstroke. The 400-yard freestyle relay team of Callender, Shai Moultray, Joyce Hatfield and Bridget Barta was fifth and the 200-yard medley relay team of Makayla Cummings, Schrader, Maddy Stoddard and Templin finished fourth.
The 200-yard butterfly relay team of Shai Moultray, Jayna Moultray, Callender and Schrader set a new school record with a time of 2:36.25 while swimming the race during the 200-yard freestyle relay, where they finished 12th.
For the boys, Sam Pierce and Russell Albin both had top finishes as Albin won the 100-yard butterfly and Pierce finished first in the 100-yard breaststroke. Albin was also fifth in the 50-yard freestyle while Pierce was fourth in the 200-yard individual medley.
Kelton Thomas also had a good meet for the Wildcats, finishing second in the 200-yard individual medley and third in the 100-yard freestyle. Peyton Malmberg also had a top-five finish for the boys, coming in fourth in the 100-yard backstroke.
The 200-yard medley relay team of Pierce, Albin, Malmberg and Thomas finished second while the same quartet also finished third in the 200-yard freestyle relay.
The team will be in Missoula Saturday for their next invitational meet.
