Flathead County Commissioners last week approved the preliminary plat for a new RV Park west of Columbia Falls.

Robert and Geraldine Rupp are proposing to build 77 RV lots on 13 acres south of Highway 40 off Kinninnick Lane. Called Whispering Pines, the park would be built in two phases by the fall of 2023 or within five years of approval of the application.

The vote by commissioners was unanimous, though commissioner Phil Mitchell said he thought it was a bad place for an RV Park.

The Park comes with 27 conditions, including widening and improving Kinninnick Lane to county road standards. The Rupps also have to prove they have legal access to the land — there appears to be a dispute with a neighboring landowner on an easement to access the property from the lane in the northeast corner of the lot.

That will be have to be resolved before the final plat can be approved, commissioners noted.
