Robert Dale Potter

Robert Dale Potter, 72, of Greenville, Texas, passed away on Saturday, Feb. 10, 2018. Mr. Potter was born on May 28, 1945 in Phoenix, Arizona to William Dale and Mabel Thomsen Potter. He was married to Nomie L. Newman, who preceded him in death.

Robert is survived by his son Michael Potter and wife Allison Smith-Click of Huntsville, AL; brother and wife, Jerry and Terry Potter of Henderson KY.; grandchildren Katelyn and Jarrod Potter; and step grandchildren Chandler and Campbell Click; nephews Jeremy Potter and wife Andrea; niece, Stephanie Arendt and two great nieces and nephews.

Robert attended high school in Columbia Falls where he was very involved in basketball, football and baseball. He attended Montana State University in 1964-1965 and obtained a B.S. and a M.S. degree from the University of Tampa. He enlisted in the United States Army in 1966 and in 1968 was selected to go to officer’s candidate school in Fort Belvoir, VA. In 1969 he went to Fort Wolters, Texas and went to Rotary Wing Flight school where he was top of his class. In 1970, he was assigned to Vietnam to fly Huey Cobras. During his time in the military, Robert was decorated with numerous commendations for valor including a Bronze Star with three oak leaf clusters. After completing a year in Vietnam, He was assigned to the 370th Engineering group in Germany, where he was awarded the Itschner Award for the outstanding engineer company in the United States Army.

After the Army, Robert and family moved to Tampa, Florida and later to Henderson, KY where he attended University of Evansville. In 1984, he went to Huntsville, AL, where he became the Regional Director for Mercury Consolidated, NASA. He later started his own company where he was CEO of Digipro Inc. Throughout the years, he held numerous jobs as a contract engineering executive consultant. During this time, he landed in Texas and eventually settled in Greenville.

Robert (Bob) lived his life to the fullest and loved sports. He was a Black Belt in karate (6th degree) – Shotokan and in 1973 was the European International Black Belt Champion. He later was inducted into the Marshall Arts Hall of Fame. Bob loved most anything that involved a sport. He was a great bowler and had numerous 300 games. He loved to play fast pitch softball. In 1975, he played on the Florida State fast pitch team. In 1979, he played on the all Army team. In 1980, they were the Class A National Champions and he was on the All National team, (third base). In 1981, He was a member of the Michigan State champions. In 1982 while living in Henderson, he played on the Kentucky State Champions. In 1984 and ‘86 he played on the USSSA World Champion team – John Hanson. After moving to Huntsville, he played with the 1986 Alabama State Fastpitch Champions.

Bob was an honorable member of the Kentucky Colonels, in the Marquis – Who’s Who in the South and Southwest. He was also an avid Auburn and Cowboys Fan.
