Archer wins silver at National Championships
Columbia Falls archer Miranda Lauria earned a silver medal this weekend as she competed at the United States Intercollegiate Indoor National Championships in Las Vegas, Nev. She won the gold medal for the University of the Cumberlands in the women’s recurve competition at the Mid-South Conference Indoor Championships last month.
Lauria entered the National Championship as the No. 2 seed in the women’s recurve and she easily defeated Mount Marty College’s Callie Stevens in the opening round, 7-1. She picked up another win in the second round as she defeated UV-Irvine’s Kirstin Cassidy 6-2. Lauria took an early lead over Mount Marty’s McKenna Cooley in the championship round, but wound up falling 6-4 to earn the silver.
Lauria’s performance helped The University of the Cumberlands win its second consecutive National Title.
At the Mid-South Championship, Lauria defeated Campbellsville College’s Morgan Hatfield to win the gold medal at the event as the Cumberland Patriots earned 11 gold medals, and 17 overall, on their way to the team championship.
Lauria also won gold earlier in January at the USIAC South Regional, where she scored 1,033 points to beat her closest competitor by more than 100 points.
