Principal excited about new school year

The first day of the Columbia Falls High School 2018-19 school year is on Thursday and plenty of preparation has already gone into creating another outstanding year.

Teachers started work on Monday and freshman student and parent orientation night was Tuesday. On Thursday, teachers will go over class expectations and course syllabuses. All students will meet in advisory groups to review the student handbook and freshmen will meet with upper class Peer Allies to help answer any questions they may have. This further creates a sense of belonging and prepares them for their first days in high school.

These activities at the beginning of the school year are among the many traditions at Columbia Falls that keep students engaged and excited about their school. New traditions such as the Homecoming parade, which will be Sept. 17, and Bleed Blue week in the spring are also slated to be part of the 2018-19 school year.

We will be working hard to continue the successes of the last few years at Columbia Falls. We already have a 13-year long tradition of speech and debate winning the state title, but we’d also like to continue the recent successes of students earning Presidential or National Merit Scholarships, winning state championships in various sports, and having the highest graduation rate and lowest dropout rate among Flathead Valley schools.

Going into this year, I am most grateful for the tradition of care and commitment demonstrated by the teachers, support staff, custodians and all adults who work at Columbia Falls and in School District 6. I am also very grateful for a community that truly loves our students and continues to support us in so many ways.
