After rains, Waterton Lakes National Park reopens

Waterton Lakes National Park in Canada has reopened after the Boundary Fire saw rain Sunday and Monday.

Goat Haunt has recorded .91 inch of rain in the past 24 hours.

The Boundary Fire, which is burning at the north end of Glacier National Park about a mile west of Waterton Lake never did cross into Canada.

Parks Canada reopened Waterton at 9 a.m. this morning.

Trails in Glacier National Park that are closer to the fire remain closed, including Goat Haunt and the north boundary trail. U.S. Customs also announced that the port of entry at Goat Haunt is also closed.

Backcountry campgrounds in the area, including the Kootenai Lakes campground remain closed.

The Howe Ridge Fire in Glacier also saw rain, with some snow at higher elevations. But not as much rain. West Glacier got about .4 of an inch of rain, while further up the drainage there was about .6 of an inch.

Not enough to squash the fires, but it will help slow them down. Temperatures were also much cooler, with highs in the 50s on Monday.

This week will see a drying trend heading toward the end of the week.

The west side of the Going-to-the-Sun Road to Logan Pass remains closed due to the Howe Ridge Fire.
