River meeting

The next comprehensive river management plan meeting on the three forks of the Flathead is 6 to 8 p.m. Aug. 29 at Flathead Valley Community College. The topic of discussion is fish and fisheries management and how it will fit into the plan. The meeting is open to the public.

Maya pedal

An event to raise funds for Maya Pedal, a non-profit that helps Guatamela families with machines made from used bicycles to empower them, is at 6 p.m. Sept. 7 at the O’Shaughnessy Center in Whitefish. There will be music by Cocinando, traditional Maya cuisine, the Maya Pedal machines at work and special guest speaker Veronica Buch, president of Maya Pedal, will attend.

Chamber lunch

The first Columbia Falls Chamber lunch of the fall is Sept. 11 at 11:45 a.m. at the North Valley Community Center on Nucleus Avenue. Gust speaker is Doug Mitchell of the Glacier National Park Conservancy.

Chamber meets

The Columbia Falls Area Chamber’s Aug. 21 Economic Development meeting is led by our local Drug Task Force Steering Committee. They will discuss its work in our local community at the Back Room of the Nite Owl from 7:15 a.m. to 8 a.m.

Business party

Glacier Bank will host a business after hours party from 5 to 7 p.m. Aug. 28 at its Columbia Falls branch. The public is invited to attend.

Community market

The Columbia Falls Community Market at the Coop continues at 5 p.m. Aug. 23 at the Coop. This week’s band is Man and the Box. Kalispell Brewing Company provides the beer and the sponsor is Spotted Bear Spirits.

Continuing ed

Flathead Valley Community College’s Continuing Education Center is now accepting registrations for its fall lineup of non-credit classes and workshops. The complete schedule is available on FVCC’s web site at www.fvcc.edu/continuing-ed. Printed copies of the schedule are available at the Information Desk in Blake Hall and at the Continuing Education Center in the Arts and Technology Building on campus. All classes are taught by local and regional experts on the featured topics.
