Swim Cats finish fifth at state meet

With 46 swimmers competing at the state meet in Conrad over the weekend, the Columbia Falls Swim Team came away with a fifth-place finish in Class A.

The Cats were led by Alanis Peterson, who won one event and finished second in two others. Camile Cronk also took home fourth in three events.

Peterson was the top performer in the 9&10 girls’ 50 backstroke, winning the event with a time of 45.95 seconds. She was also second in the 100 individual medley with a time of 1:31.99 and second in the 50 butterfly at 39.15 seconds.

Cronk took home fourth in the 9&10 girls’ 50 freestyle (36.35 seconds), the 100 freestyle (1:23.88) and the 50 backstroke (44.32 seconds).

The only other Swim Cat to finish in the top five in an individual event was Tyler Venegas, who was fourth in the 11&12 boys’ 50 backstroke with a time of 38.86.

The Cats took sixth overall in the relay events as the 9&10 girls were second in the 100 medley relay with a time of 1:18.25 while the 11&12 girls were third in the 200 medley relay with a time of 2:53.77 and fifth in the 200 freestyle relay with a time of 2:28.33.

The Cats relay teams were also fourth in the in the 8&U girls’ 100 freestyle, 11&12 boys’ 200 freestyle and 13&14 boys’ 200 freestyle and 200 medley.
