Wildcats pummel Loggers on the road; face improved Indians
The Columbia Falls football team pummeled conference rival Libby on the road last Friday, 54-0. The Wildcats shot out to a 20-0 lead in the first quarter en route to a blowout.
It was the Cats first action since Sept. 8. Last week’s game against Stevensville, was canceled due to cyber threats against the school.
Colton McPhee ran for two touchdowns in the win, including a 45-yarder in the second half. Logan Bechtel caught two touchdown passes from Austin Green and Green ran one in as well. Ben Windauer and Easton Sempf also had touchdowns in the victory.
Green was 12 for 15 passing for 238 yards and the team rushed for 245 yards. McPhee led the squad with 11 rushes for 117 yards. Windauer led the receiving corps with four catches for 79 yards.
Coach Jaxon Schweikert was pleased with the team’s play.
“We were really clean,” he said. The passes were crisp. The timing was right and the pass protection was great, he noted.
Defensively Schweikert says he’s got the best crew in state A, particularly against the run. He noted the only big plays they’ve given up this season were on quarterback scrambles, and it’s something they can improve upon.
The Cats (2-1) will face a much improved Browning team for homecoming this Friday. They have a good quarterback, Schweikert noted.
“He’s accurate and can throw the ball,” he said.
Browning thrashed Whitefish last week, 52-0. Game time is 7 p.m. and the Cats first home game of the season.
