The Columbia Falls boys soccer squad went 2-1 on the week. They dropped Stevensville on the road last Tuesday, 6-1, lost to Polson Thursday at home 3-1 and then thrashed Libby at home Saturday, 7-0.

Tristan Grein led the Wildcats with two goals against Stevi as the Cats blew the game open with four goals in the second half, out-shooting Stevi 19-2.

Against Polson, the game could have been closer. They had a penalty kick go wide in the first few minutes of the game, which would have put them up 1-0. Polson is a physically big team and out-shot the Cats 21-5.

In the Libby game, Auguste Emond had his best game of the season with two goals and an assist as the boys shot out to a 7-0 lead after the first half.

Coach O’Brien Byrd was pleased with the way the boys are playing, whether it was sticking with Polson, which is the best team in the conference, or handling Libby.

“Every game they give 100 percent,” he said.

He noted they’re a young squad and they continue to improve each week. He expects them to make a run in the playoffs.

On Tuesday, the boys lost to Whitefish 3-0. The game was much closer than the score would suggest. It was a draw deep into the second half. The Cats outshot the Bulldogs 18-9, but just couldn’t find the back of the net.

They wrap up the regular season next week with a Tuesday home game against Bigfork and then are on the road against Libby Oct. 6.
