Bear attacks hunter up east side of Hungry Horse Reservoir

A hunter was attacked by a bear in the Twin Creek area on the east side of the Hungry Horse Reservoir Sunday morning.

The injured victim drove with his hunting partner to the hospital to receive medical attention, Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks said in a release Monday morning.

It did not say whether the bear was a grizzly or black bear.

The Region One FWP Wildlife Human Attack Response Team was dispatched to the area immediately upon notification. The incident is still under investigation, but initial reports are that this was a surprise encounter in a very brushy area. The party did shoot at the bear during the attack and the bear ran off.

FWP said more information will be provided as it becomes available.
