Glacier National Park is now allowing some backcountry permits in the Park. On Thursday, it began issuing permits for campgrounds south of the Going-to-the-Sun Road, outside of areas that are closed by the Sprague Creek Fire.

Right now about 23 of the Park’s backcountry campsites are open, though some are already full with campers.

The Park had stopped issuing permits a couple of weeks ago because of extreme fire danger. Temperatures have since cooled, though campers now have to be worried about snow and rain at higher elevations.
