The Sprague Fire grew overnight, but didn’t make a big run toward Apgar Village, despite high winds from the northwest and northeast last night. It also did not reach the Going-to-the-Sun Road, fire managers said Thursday morning.

The fire grew about 1,200 acres and is now 15,995 acres after an infrared flight last night.

The wind was fierce over the fire about midnight as a cold front blew through, but the humidity was up and the temperature was in the 40s, which likely stemmed fire growth to the south.

Today, the forecast is for rain, with a good chance of snow by tonight.

The chance for rain in the Park is 100 percent for tomorrow, with upwards of 2 inches of snow above 5,500 feet.

An evacuation warning is still in place for Apgar and most of West Glacier. Winds are still expected to be brisk today. The Sun Road remains closed on the west side to Logan Pass.
