Wildcats lose to Beavers on the road
The Columbia Falls football team lost to Dillon in a squeaker on the road last Friday, 16-14. The rematch of last year’s Class A championship game lived up to its billing.
The score was knotted up at 7 apiece in the first half.
Austin Green put the Wildcats on the board in the second quarter with a 2-yard run into the end zone.
In the second half, Green picked off a Koby King pass in the third quarter that set up a Wildcat scoring drive to put the Wildcats up 14-7. Dillon answered with a scoring drive of its own, but missed the point after attempt.
The Cats drove down to the Beavers’ nine yard line in the fourth, but couldn’t score. Dillon then drove down the Cats nine yard line. The Cats defense was able to hold Dillon from a touchdown, sacking King at the four-yard line.
But Dillon hit a 23-yard field goal with 1:02 left in the game to take the lead.
The Cats drove to the Dillon 28 yard line. With fourth down and six with just four seconds to go, they opted for a Ben Windauer 45-yard field goal attempt.
The kick was partially blocked and the game ended.
Columbia Falls has its home opener this Friday against Stevensville. Game time is 7 p.m.
They open conference play the week after on the road against Libby.
