Wildcats cruise to conference crown, drub Polson, 50-6
The Columbia Falls football team wrapped up the regular season Friday night with a flourish, dropping conference rival Polson, 50-6, in a game that was all but over after the first quarter.
Junior Colton McPhee had nine carries for 149 yards and three touchdowns to lead the Cats. Quarterback Austin Green had six carries for 45 yards and a touchdown and Logan Kolodejchuk had seven carries for 41 yards. Easton Sempf had eight carries for 14 yards.
On the passing end, Green was 8 for 11 for 140 yards and three touchdowns, while backup Parker Greene was 2 for 2 for 34 yards. Ben Windauer led the receiving corps with four catches for 77 yards and two touchdowns, while Drew Morgan had three catches for 62 yards and a touchdown.
The Cats had 423 yards total offense.
“We played pretty crisp football,” coach Jaxon Schweikert said. “The offensive and defensive lines were excellent.”
The Cats squashed Polson’s offense. Gang tackles were the norm.
The win gave the Wildcats a 5-0 Northwest A conference record and the conference championship. The Cats have outscored conference opponents this year 253-25.
They now have a first-round bye in the playoffs. They’ll face the winner of the fourth and fifth seed in the East, between Miles City (7-2) and Lewistown (5-4).
Miles City is the odds-on favorite.
“We think they’re the best team from the East,” Schweikert said.
The Cowboys wrapped up their regular season with a 57-21 win over Havre. They also dropped previously undefeated Sidney 28-0 earlier this year.
The blowouts are over for the Cats.
“These are going to be hard-fought games,” Schweikert said.
With a bye week, Schweikert said they’ll keep the same schedule, though they’ll probably give the team Friday off. He said they were pretty healthy.
