Senior Logan Lybbert shot a two day score of 177 for 22nd place to lead Columbia Falls golfers at the state A tournament in Sidney last week. Lybbert carded an 85 and 92 respectively. He was followed by teammates Tyler Langton 92-88-180 (28th) and LJ Panasuk 96-90-186 (39th).

Coach Gene Marcille was pleased the boys’ performance.

“These three Wildcats competed well and also represented Columbia Falls High School like we want them to. It’s satisfying to watch them navigate the scene at state with a style and friendliness that doesn’t always show up in high school golf,” he said. “We didn’t quite meet our scoring goals, but the wind both days added some strokes to just about all of the scores.”

Marcille said the future looks bright.

“Tyler Langton’s only a sophomore, so I’m excited to build next year’s team around his leadership and determination.”

Letter winners for the 2017 season included Lybbert, Panasuk, Langton, Reush Powell, Trey Perkins, DJ Laycock, Bobby Dewbre and Elizabeth Opalka

Sixty-eight golfers hit the course.

Libby’s Ryggs Johnston broke the 10-year-old Class A record for 36 holes, finishing at 10-under-par 134 for the tournament and championship honors. The mark blows away the old record, set at 3-under 137 by Whitefish’s Sam Krause in 2006 at Butte Country Club.
