The Columbia Falls boys soccer team went 2-2 on the week.

Last Tuesday, the boys lost to Whitefish 3-0 at home. The game was much closer than the score would suggest. It was a draw deep into the second half. The Cats out-shot the Bulldogs 18-9, but just couldn’t find the back of the net.

On Thursday, they dropped non-conference Stillwater Christian 2-1 at home. Auguste Emond and Sebastian Hogvall both scored for the Cats.

Against Polson, they were blanked 4-0 on the road.

Polson, the top team in the conference out-shot the Cats 23-9.

Coach O’Brien Byrd said he likes the team’s effort. Against Whitefish, they dominated both possession and shots. Against Polson, they played hard as well.

They’re giving 100 percent.

“We just need someone to score,” he noted.

At home Tuesday they found that scoring, dropping Bigfork after a slow start, 4-3.

Emond put the Cats up 3-2 when his free kick at the 57-minute mark from about 30 yards out found the back of the net. Alex Garate then added an insurance goal tomake it 4-2.

The Cats wrap up the regular season on the road Friday against Libby.

As the third team in the Northern conference, they’re 5-5 overall and 3-4 in conference. If they win out, they’d be 4-4 in conference play and would play the No. 1 team from the south on the road — Frenchtown.

Frenchtown beat the Cats 3-1 earlier this season, but the Broncs only out-shot the Cats 14-12 in that game.
