Jesse B Pogue

Jesse B Pogue (Jay), 91, died peacefully at Barton House with wife, Jeanne at his side in Scottsdale, Arizona, Nov. 7, 2017.

He was born Aug. 7, 1926 in Cincinnati, Ohio to Mary and Edward Pogue. He attended Walnut Hills High School and University of Cincinnati Receiving B.Sc. and M.Sc. degrees. Served in the Army in the Philippines and Japan during and after World War II. He was a geologist for five years, then a science teacher for 28 years.

He also was a National Park Service naturalist, spending seven years at Grand Canyon and 21 summers in Glacier Park. Also a musician, he sang in Orpheus Men’s Chorus, church choir, and Hand bell choir. He was predeceased by sister, Ophelia and brother Charles, Jay is survived by wife, Jeanne, daughters Debbie, Jackie, Melodie and Teri; sons, Brent and Brad, 11 grandchildren, and four great grandchildren. A Memorial Service will be held at Messinger Mortuary, 7601 E. Indian School Road Nov. 24, 2017 11 a.m., with internment at National Memorial Cemetery 2:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions in his name may be made to Hospice of the Valley, 1510 E Flower St. Phoenix AZ. 85014.
