The Columbia Falls volleyball team came up short for a state A championship playoff berth at the Western A divisional tournament in Butte last week.

The Wildkats opened the tourney Thursday with a 25-19, 25-23, 18-25, 25-22 win over Hamilton, but then lost to Corvallis, 25-6, 25-15, 25-23 later in the day.

They then lost to Stevensville in loser-out play Friday, 27-25, 25-16, 25-23.

“It is exciting because they are young. And we have a lot of young talent coming up,” said coach Jolandie Brooks. “They worked hard this year and were driven by wanting to prove that they were more than just a team in a ‘rebuilding’ year.

“We’re going to get to work on the off season and we’re already looking forward to getting back out on that court!”

The squad was made up mostly of underclassmen. The team had just one senior on the roster — Tallia Sova.

They ended the year with a 9-11 record and were 5-5 in conference play.
