Wreaths Across
America
The annual Wreaths Across America event at the Montana Veterans Home is Dec. 16 at 10 a.m. Glacier Chapter - Sons of the American Revolution and the Montana Veteran’s Home host this annual celebration. Wreath donations are still needed. Each donated wreath costs $15. Donated wreaths are placed on graves of veterans as part of the Wreaths Across America celebration
Those wishing to donate a wreath or wreaths should mail their check payable to Wreaths Across America to Steve Armstrong, 439 Grand Drive, #170, Bigfork, MT 59911. The deadline for wreath donations is Saturday, Nov. 18. Over one million wreaths will be placed on veterans’ graves at a thousand cemeteries this year.
Vets ceremony
The annual Veterans Day Ceremony at the Columbia Falls High School is at 10 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 9. The public is invited to attend.
Energy talk
A forum featuring local clean energy businesses and a new UM research white paper on the social and economic impacts of Montana’s transition to a renewable energy future will be held Thursday, Nov. 16, 7 p.m. at the Cedar Creek Lodge in Columbia Falls. A panel will discuss Montana’s clean energy future. Confirmed panelists include: David Bopp, Flathead Electric Cooperative, Paul Siblerud, ViZn, Paul McKenzie, F.H. Stoltze Land and Lumber, Diane Yarus, Airworks, Jeff Arcel, Aeon Renewable Energy, Barbara Calm, Calm Veterinary Clinic (reflections on solar system installed at Kila business in 2008), Andrew Valainis, Montana Renewable Energy Association.
Audubon talk
Join Flathead Audubon Society on Monday, Nov. 13, at 7 p.m. at the Gateway Community Center in Kalispell, for a look at the ongoing study of cottonwoods in Owen Sowerwine Natural Area, a 442 acre river bottom managed by Flathead Audubon for educational purposes. OSNA appears to have high percentage of very old black cottonwood trees and very little recruitment of new cottonwoods in the “micro-upland” areas. Flathead High School students have been studying the area and will present their findings.
Chamber meets
The Columbia Falls Chamber of Commerce will have its monthly meeting at 11:45 a.m. Nov. 14 at the North Valley Community room with a talk from North Valley Hospital interim CEO Chris Thomas on healthcare issues.
Business After Hours
The Columbia falls Business After Hours this month is at Auctech on Highway 40. The custom metal shop will host light refreshments from 5 to 7 p.m., plus showcase its business.
