Kats go 2-2 in state softball tourney
The Columbia Falls softball team went 2-2 at the state tournament in Sidney last week.
The Wildkats opened the tourney with a 10-9 eight-inning victory over Havre Thursday and then beat Miles City 11-4 in a game that lasted into Friday because of darkness Thursday night.
The Kats then lost to eventual champ Belgrade 10-1 and in the loser-out bracket, they lost to Polson 2-0.
Against Polson, they had the bases loaded a couple of times, but just couldn’t get a run across.
Highlight of the tournament was a Peyton Kehr two-run homer in the bottom of the eighth inning against Havre to win the game after falling behind, 9-8.
The Kats came back from an big deficit to force extra innings.
It was an emotional week for the Kehr family. Bob Kehr, the father of Columbia Falls coach Dave Kehr and Peyton’s grandfather, passed away in Pennsylvania on Tuesday morning. Dave flew home to see his father earlier in the week and then met the team in Sidney.
The Kats were 15-10 overall. Belgrade beat Frenchtown for the state title, 6-1.
