Girls crush Bulldogs in home opener doubleheader
Columbia Falls walloped Whitefish in a doubleheader at home last Thursday, beating the Bulldogs 16-1 in the opener and 20-0 in the nightcap.
The Kats racked up 15 hits in the first game and 17 in the second. Sydney Hovde hit a homer in the nightcap. KJ Schweikert started on the mound and Savvy Ellis came in on relief to hold Whitefish to three hits. The two combined to no-hit the Bulldogs in the nightcap.
The hapless Bulldogs had 11 errors over the two games.
Coach Dave Kehr played a mix of varsity and junior varsity players in both games. The Wildkats are now 2-2 in conference play and 10-5 overall as their batting improves as the season progresses.
On Monday, the girls lost to AA Glacier, 2-1 in a game that came down to Glacier’s final at-bat.
Glacier’s Anna Schrade hit a walk-off triple to right field in the bottom of the seventh inning to win it.
