Our Savior’s Lutheran Church has a brand new Mason & Hamlin grand piano. They’ve been saving for it for almost a year, and raised the money mostly from straight donations.

The grand replaces an older electric piano.

“We wanted to get something especially nice that would last us a long time,” Pastor Peter Erickson said.

The new piano, which was delivered March 16, is exceeding his expectations.

“It has this beautiful rich tone to it,” Erickson remarked. “It just has a much bigger sound and is way more enjoyable.”

The church is already benefiting greatly from the instrument.

“We have a great music program here and folks are really enjoying it,” Erickson noted.

To celebrate the arrival of the piano, the church is hosting a concert on May 13 at 7 p.m. featuring Grammy-nominated pianist and Chester native Philip Aaberg. Aaberg is internationally recognized, and has performed with musicians like Peter Gabriel and the Doobie Brothers.

“He’s one of my favorite musicians,” Erickson said. “He’s able to paint pictures with his music of Montana landscapes, and he’s really good in live performance.”

Aaberg will be performing a program of his own compositions.

Tickets are $15 each and can be purchased at the church during office hours on Monday through Thursday from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., or by calling 892-3784.

The music doesn’t stop here.

“We wanted the community to be able to enjoy it as well. We’re hoping to host additional concerts,” Erickson said.
