Food drive
The Columbia Falls Lions Club is currently holding a food drive, with drop-off boxes at the Nite Owl, Freedom Bank and Glacier Bank. Of particular need is pancake mix, pancake syrup, soup, crackers and other non-perishable items.
Fish Fry
The Knights of Columbus Council No. 7009 are having their annual “Fish Fry Friday” throughout Lent, starting on March 3 until April 7 at 6 p.m. at St Richard’s Parish in Columbia Falls. The cost is $8 plate /$25.00 family of (four). In addition, for a “free will offering,” there will be corned beef and cabbage on Saint Patrick’s Day. Also, its monthly community kitchen will sponsor a fish fry dinner on March 31. And don’t forget the “Meat Raffle” during these events, too. Beer for Chute
On March 7 at Backslope Brewing in Columbia Falls, $1 of every glass of beer sold between 5-8 p.m. is donated to the Nate Chute Foundation, a local non-profit organization dedicated to suicide prevention among young people in Montana. The 18th consecutive Nate Chute slalom race and boardercross is held on March 18 and 19 at Big Mountain. Come join us and learn about what the Nate Chute Foundation provides for our community. Jazz concert
Glacier Gateway fifth graders from Ms. Bouton’s, Ms. Colleran’s and Mr. Van der Weide’s classes will present “Jazz – A Swingin’ Celebration on the Ski Slopes” on Friday, March 3 at 1:45 p.m. in the high school Little Theater. A complimentary reception for students, parents and guests will follow the afternoon performance.
Birding hike
A free, guided birding hike is March 4, at 9 a.m. at Montessori School in Kalispell. The hike will be approximately 3 miles long with less than 600 feet of elevation gain and is led by expert naturalist Brian Baxter of Libby. The hike is co-sponsored by Montana Wilderness Association, Montana Audubon and Flathead Audubon. Participants must sign up at wildmontana.org/walks under the “Winter Wilderness Walks” heading.
