For outdoorsman Wells, rod repair is a snap

You’re planning to head to Spotted Bear or Lake Koocanusa or Fort Peck in a couple weeks and have decided, quite uncharacteristically, to check your fishing gear early.

Well-known outdoor adventure guide Rusty Wells can fix your rod in less time than the manufacturer.
“I work on fly rods, spinning rods, and casting rods, including an occasional bamboo rod. I just completed working on a paddlefish snagging rod,” Wells said.
“When replacing guides, I try real hard to match the color of the original thread, which isn’t getting any easier because some original thread makers have gone out of business.
“One thing I don’t do is fixed a snapped rod. Those broken rods must be returned to the manufacturer for possible warranty servicing.”
Turn around is generally three to four days, depending if he has to order parts.
“What I offer is to fix the guides to make them look as original as possible and get the angler back on the water.”
