Basketball camps

Columbia Falls basketball camps for both boys and girls are coming up soon. The grade school camp is at the high school June 26-29, from 10 a.m. to noon for grades 3-5 and from 1-3 p.m. for grades 6-8. The high school camp is July 10-13 from 6-9 p.m. at the Junior High. Cost is $50 for each individual (family discount of $5 off each additional child) and a T-shirt is included. Free dinners

The Canyon Community dinners will start this month with two free meals. Everyone is always welcome to mix, mingle, color, have a cup of coffee, or play cards at 5 p.m., and to enjoy a wonderful dinner served between 5:30 and 6:30 p.m. at the Hungry Horse school. The first dinner of this month is Thursday, June 15. The menu will be Sloppy Joes and salad, with brownies for dessert. Call Flo at 250-3406 or Luann at 261-1083 with questions.

Community market

On Thursday, June 15 at 5-8 p.m., the market at the Coop will have music by John Dunnigan, beer by Flathead Lake Brewing, and spirits by Spotted Bear Spirits, sponsored by Glacier Raft Company to benefit the Gateway to Glacier Trail.

Plant walk

Join the Flathead chapter of the Montana Native Plant Society for an evening stroll at River’s Edge Park on Wednesday, June 14. Meet at 6 p.m. for an hour or two of searching for wildflowers and exploring the rocky floodplain. Bring a sack supper and gloves and tools for optional knapweed pulling. Warbler weekend

Join Flathead Audubon Thursday through Saturday, June 15-17, at the Tally Lake Campground for two days of birding and relaxing. There will be an optional potluck meal Friday evening around 6 p.m. Please bring something to share if you want to participate. Flathead Lake tour

Flathead Audubon is sponsoring a tour of the Flathead Lake Biological Station, one of the oldest active biological field stations in the country, on Monday, June 19 from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Contact Doug at 602-633-8611 to sign up.

Plant nursery work

Every Tuesday from June 20 to August 29, tour and volunteer at the Montana Native Plant Society’s nursery in Glacier National Park. Bring a lunch, work gloves, and clothes that can tolerate dirt. Volunteer work begins after 9 a.m. and wraps up around 3:00 p.m. Tours start from the West Glacier headquarters at 10:00 a.m. Contact Sonja Hartmann (888-7835) or Rebecca Lawrence (888-7836) for details.

Fire ecology hike

On Wednesday, June 21, celebrate the first day of summer with an easy hike for all ages along the North Fork Road to explore the effects of fire and rejuvenation. Meet at 9 a.m. at the Columbia Falls Montana Coffee Traders, make a few stops along North Fork Road, and return by 3-4 p.m. Contact Steve Wirt at wirtland@yahoo.com or 261-2542.

Weed wrangling

Bring your leather gloves and help pull noxious weeds from the Middle Fork of the Flathead River on Friday, June 23. Starting around 9 a.m., enjoy a full day of rafting and weed pulling followed by a barbecue. Pedal and Paddle

The Gateway to Glacier Trail group will hold its annual Pedal and Paddle event June 24. Meet at the Coop to register and then bike up the North Fork Road to Blankenship Bridge, then float the Flathead River. Come back to the Coop and have a beer by Backslope Brewing.
