Annabel Conger and Colin Norick nabbed first in policy debate and Chloe Foster was first in memorized public address as the Columbia Falls speech and debate team won the Class A sweeps at the Corvallis/Hamilton Invitational Tournament over the weekend.

The tourney featured 22 teams from Class AA, A, and B/C.

“With up 50 competitors in an event, the competition was tough to reach the finals round. Columbia Falls had students place in the finals round of top eight in every speech and debate event,” said coach Tara Norick. The Wildcats racked up 168 points. Whitefish placed second with 65 points and Belgrade was third was 40.

“Our balance across the team will really help us as we look to competing in the state tournament later this month in Laurel. We have to keep working to fine tune our speeches before then as we do not see the eastern teams until we are at state,” Norick said.

The squad hosts the Western A divisional tourney Jan. 21.
