Roberta Carol (Herriges) Rocks

On Dec. 9, 2016, after a long battle with cancer, Roberta Carol (Herriges) Rocks, 76, died peacefully in her home, with family by her side.

Carol was born and grew up in Whitefish, graduating from Whitefish High School in 1958. She spent most of her adult life in the Tri-cities and Seattle, Washington areas where she married Ken Jones and gave birth to her three sons, Rick, Mike and Pat. She had a good life there but her fondest dreams were always to return to the Flathead and to own a bookstore. She realized both by moving to Columbia Falls in the mid-’90s and opening Bad Rock Books in 1997. She found satisfaction in being surrounded by books and by sharing her love of them with all. She continued to work in her beloved bookstore and the community until shortly before her death, making many friends along the way.

Carol was preceded in death by her brother, Bob Herriges, parents, Edgar Herriges and Bette Hiser and brother-in-law Dale Huntsman.

She is survived by her husband, Russell; sons and daughters-in-law Rick and Heidi Jones, Mike and Karyl Jones, Pat and Patti Jones; her sisters and brothers-in-law, Rae and Stan Buckland, Ann and Jim Driskell and Jean Huntsman; 12 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
