The Columbia Falls golf season got underway last week, with sophomore Tyler Langton leading the Wildcats with a 10th place finish 85 at the Northwest A kickoff tournament at the Whitefish Lake Golf Club.

Senior Logan Lybbert was 11th with an 86. Libby’s Rygg Johnston won the event with a course record 61. Other Wildcat finishers were junior Trey Perkins with a 90 and Reush Powell with a 112.

Longtime coach Gene Marcille said it was a solid outing for the Cats.

“I was impressed how the team carried themselves and represented Columbia Falls,” he said. As a team, the Cats tied for fifth with Frenchtown and edged rival Whitefish by two strokes.

All told, the boys squad this year has 11 golfers and one female golfer, Elizabeth Opalka. Marcille is assisted this year by local pros Andrew Lettrich of the West Glacier Golf Course and TJ Ray of Meadow Lake Golf Resort. Longtime assistant Dan Frankino retired.

There’s still time for girls to play if they’re interested. Call Marcille at (406) 249-3693.
