Run for Kimberly
A 5k fun run to benefit Kimberly Peacock, a Columbia Falls cross country runner who is battling leukemia, is 10 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 27 at the Pinewood Aqautic Center. Early registration is $25 until Aug. 20. Late registration $30 until the day of the race. Community market
On Thursday, Aug. 17 at 5 p.m., the market at the Coop will have music by World’s Finest, beer by Great Northern Brewing Company, and spirits by Whistling Andy, sponsored by Berube Physical Therapy to benefit Dream Adaptive.
School phones
School District 6 is in the process of conducting training with a new phone system, and asks for the community’s continued patience until school starts.
A high call volume is causing delays. Calls to individual buildings are being routed to the administration office for the time being, though the hope is to have the system up and running completely by week’s end.
Free dinner
A Canyon Community Dinner at the Hungry Horse School Thursday, Aug. 17 will offer enchiladas, pork and beans, rice, and fruit salad. Dinner is served from 5:30-6:30 p.m. with coffee and mingling before the meal. Call Flo at 250-3406 or Luann at 261-1083 with questions.
Bike fundraiser
On Friday, Aug. 18, from 4:30-6 p.m. at Over the Mountain bike shop behind Three Forks Grille, the public is invited to a fundraiser for the Central American nonprofit Maya Pedal. Bring your old bikes to donate. Berube Physical Therapy and Shakti Foods will sponsor the event. Buy a bike-powered blender smoothie from Shakti Foods, see how bicycle machines work, and listen to CFHS grad Ada Brooks talk about her experience with Maya Pedal.
Willson and McKee
Willson & McKee, an award-winning duo specializing in traditional Irish, Scottish, and original acoustic music, will be performing at 7 p.m. Aug. 18 and Aug. 19 at Montana House. The event is $5 per person. Reservations are required. Call 888-5393 or e-mail 1960mthouse@qwestoffice.net.
Plein air painting
On Sunday, August 20, renowned plein air painter Nicholas Oberling will demonstrate his technique at Montana House. Reception will begin at 5 p.m. with oil paintaing demonstration starting at 6 p.m. The event is free but reservations are required. High school events
Booster Club Paw painting is early evening Aug. 22 and the annual blue/white barbecue is Thursday evening Aug. 24.
Junior high physicals
Sports physicals will be Tuesday, Aug. 29 from 4-6 p.m. at the junior high. There is a $20 charge per physical.
