Boys track squad wins Iceberg Invitational, girls second

The Columbia Falls boys took top honors at the Iceberg Invitational at home Saturday, while the girls were edged by Hamilton and took second.

The Wildcats were led by first place finishes from several athletes.

Sage Wanner won the 1,600 and 3,200 races with times of 4:36.50 and 10:22.09 respectively. In the 1,600, Wanner won by just .18 second over Brock Rugg of Frenchtown, who made a mad dash in the last 100 meters to close the gap.

Braxton Reiten won the 100 meter dash in 11.48. Austin Green and Ben Windauer each jumped 13 feet even in the pole vault to share the title, and Logan Kolodejchuk won the javelin with a throw of 167-5. Michael Hoerner won the 110 meter hurdles with a time of 15.90.

The boys also won the 400 relay.

On the girls’ side, the Wildkats were led by Josie Windauer, who won the 400 meters with a time of 1:02.06. Angellica Street won the javelin with a throw of 121 feet even. Both girls are freshmen.

The girls also won the 1,600 relay.

On Thursday, the teams competed in a twilight meet in Corvallis. Dakota Bridwell won the javelin with a throw of 189-05. Street won the same event on the girls’ side with a 123-10.

They were scheduled to compete in the Top 10 meet in Missoula Tuesday after presstime and then they travel to Whitefish for the A.R.M. meet this Saturday. Events start at 10 a.m.
