Two Columbia Falls senior softball players have signed to play college ball with the University of Great Falls. Hannah Freeman and KJ Schweikert have both signed on with the private Frontier Conference Catholic college.

Schweikert will pitch for the college, while Freeman will play in the outfield, though she’s catching this year for the Wildkats in her senior season.

“Hannah will be a great addition to our outfield lineup and our offensive line up. She has speed and explosiveness that will bring great depth to our team,” said Great Falls coach Joey Egan.

“KJ is going to strengthen our pitching staff greatly. She throws hard and is very hardworking. She will also help us offensively at the plate,” Egan said.

Freeman said she heard about the school’s softball program through the Schaeffer family. Columbia Falls native Caleb Schaeffer is the head wrestling coach at UGF.

Freeman, in turn, told Egan about Schweikert’s capabilities on the mound.

“Hannah and KJ will be great additions on and off the field. They are great students and great people. They have a love for the game and motivation to keep getting better,” Egan said.

Freeman is majoring in biology and hopes to go on to medical school. She is the daughter of Charles and Heidi Freeman. Schweikert, the daughter of Sue and Jaxon Schweikert, hasn’t chosen her major yet.
