Wanner, Peacock lead harriers at Mountain West
Sage Wanner ran a personal best time of 15:51, good for 21st at the Mountain West Classic cross-country race in Missoula Saturday.
On the girls side, Kimberly Peacock clocked a 19:17, good enough for 50th at the race, which draws the best runners from Montana, Idaho and Washington.
The boys varsity finished 31st overall, and were 7th out of Class A schools represented, noted coach Jim Peacock. Wanner currently has the fastest 3-mile time of the season for all class A runners in the state.
Peacock was the fourth fastest Class A girl at the meet and was the second fastest Montana freshman runner in the race. She currently has the fourth best time for the season in Class A.
Peacock is pleased with the team’s progress.
“Our pack has continued to tighten up their split, and we keep seeing a shuffle between Bryce Bennett, Beau Umbriaco, Dillon Wanner, Joe Lamb, and William Nelson in their finish order from race to race. All five of these guys are running extremely close, and their continued improvement is the key to this team’s success at the end of the season. Gabe Knudsen ran solid, and Winfield West, a senior, ran his best time in his high school running career with a 17:38, seven seconds back from Gabe,” he noted.
On the girls side, the varsity squad finished 27th overall, and were the fourth best Class A school in the race.
Genevieve DeLorme and Raina Crowell both ran personal best times, coming in at 111th and 122th places respectively. They covered the course in 20:31 and 20:45 respectively. Kara Mohr, a freshman, covered the course in a respectable 22:05 and got her first taste of a really large race. Haylie Peacock, MegAnn Hanson, and Raychel Hoerner finished close on Kara’s heels with times of 22:28, 22:33, and 22:41 respectively.
The team travels to Thompson Falls Thursday and then has a dual with Browning at home next Monday, Oct. 3.
