Three Cats headed to state golf tourney

| September 28, 2016 9:09 AM

Wildcat juniors Logan Lybbert and Lowell Panasuk earned all-conference honors with 7th and 12th place finishes respectively at the Western A Divisional Golf Tournament in Hamilton. Lybbert shot 83 while Panasuk shot 85 on the challenging, par-72 Hamilton Golf Club course, which will also be the site for the Class A State Tournament this coming Friday and Saturday. Junior Logan Peck also qualified for state shooting 104.

“Logan (Lybbert) and LJ both had a fantastic round — some of the best golf of their varsity careers. Logan’s focus under pressure was superb, and LJ drove the ball about as well as you can. He was playing a brand-new driver, which made me a little nervous for such an important tournament, but the kid’s a very cerebral player — knows his game and what works for him,” coach Gene Marcille said.

Unfortunately the Wildcats finished in 6th place as a team with a 380, which left them 8 strokes short of qualifying a full team for state. Freshmen Tyler Langton ended his season with a 108, while sophomore Trey Perkins had to withdraw after playing a couple of holes because of illness.

“We’re really disappointed in our team finish because we consistently finished all season ahead of both Whitefish and Stevensville. However, we’re a young team — no seniors — so we’re also pretty excited about the future,” Marcille said.
